Syfy renews Van Helsing

Syfy has renewed it’s post-apocalyptic vampire survival drama, series Van Helsing.

SyFy has oked a 13 episode second season, set to begin production next January.

The plot of Van Helsing focuses on Vanessa Van Helsing, a descendant of vampire slayer
Abraham Van Helsing, who awakens from a coma several years later in a now post-
apocalyptic devastated world, where the vampires have control of most of the world. She
awakens among a group of humans holed up in a building trying to survive, where she
discovers her blood has the ability to turn the vampires human again, which makes her a
target for the vampire Ancients.

Warehouse 13 Season 4.5 - Will Start, But Late

Fans of SyFy's Warehouse 13 can stop holding their collective breaths now, because SyFy has
announced that the last half of season four (4.5 if you must.  You know I hate the way SyFy breaks a season and then shows the two halves months apart, just enough time for you to become fuzzy on the plot or forget about it all together) consisting of ten episodes will finally be airing the end of  April.  The second half episodes will continue from where the first half ended.

Its' not all shiny though.  No one is saying anything about a renew for a fifth season.  The rest of the info is here at this link if you are interested.

Lost Girl Good For Season Four

Fans of the fantasy series Lost Girl rejoice!  Mark Wilson over at About.com writes that SyFy has renewed the series for a fourth season.  Production should resume in April 2013 but don't look for the new episodes until 2014.

Thirteen episodes have been ordered so we can look for a complete season.   No word on what we can expect plot-wise, however executive producer Jay Firestone assures us a roller-coaster ride.  Main character "Bo" alliances will be challenged and everything she thought she knew about her past will be turned upside down.

SyFy Kills More Original SF - More Wraslin To Follow

Michael Hinman over at Airlock Alpha is reporting that after two seasons, "SyFy, according to a network source,  has decided not to renew 'Alphas' for a third season,"

The statement goes on to load on the BS about how proud SyFy was to carry the program and thanked the fans for their support.  (why does that statement make me feel like I just performed a particularly vile and disgusting sexual act?)

Oh and hey fans of the show, don't be looking for any clean up of plot lose ends, SyFy is really cutting Alphas off at the knees.

I really don't know how to comment on this.  Am I surprised?  No, not really, the network has a really well developed track record when it comes to science fiction, yep, they like wrasslin.   But I would not put it past them to showcase the newest southern phenom. mudcat hand noodlin.  Mark my word...

Guess Who's Coming for Dinner

Mark Wilson writing in About SF reports that the SF channel's Lost Girl has been renewed for a third season!  Yaaaaaaaaaaae!

And even better news is that Linda Hamilton of Terminator and Chuck fame will be, as Mark puts it, guesting as Acacia, a ruthless assassin.  So far Acacia is slated for just one episode.  (please let there be more!)

I know, not much to report, but as a Lost Girl fan and also always happy to know that Linda "Sarah Connor" Hamilton is still going strong, was a double payday for me.

So look for her in an upcoming episode of Lost Girl on SyFy.

COMMENT: Goodbye Eureka

Wow, last episode. I am going to leave the "how

disapointing" or "how disappointed I am with SyFy" and just for a few minutes ponder the loss of another great show. Eureka was always a quaint proposition in the first place. They took their science from the Star Trek school of physics most of the time and often the show was blatant morality plays. But if you were a fan, you were a FAN. The people were easy enough to identify, if you didn't get it right off, our everyman Carter was there to "this is what I do...." But they managed to go out in style, yes a tear jerker at times, I know, but the closed loop at the end?!!! I am SOOOOO loving that.

So not so much as losing a close friend, the feeling for Eureka at the risk of being anthropomorphic, was having that close friend move away.

The sting will fade as it has before with better, far better shows, but if you have enjoyed the years, then you know the characters you have come to enjoy aren't there. TV Science Fiction is plainer for it.

Good bye Eureka

Oh and thanks to Kallamis for the graphic find!  Sweet!

'Booster Gold' New Syfy Series?

Hey, comic book fans.... have you heard that the character Booster Gold is heading towards a meeting with the SyFy channel with a series in the offing.

Not really being up on the minor players in the DC universe I had to check who this Booster Gold was. The Booster Gold character is from the future and it seems he is known as "Booster" for his shameless self promotion. He uses his knowledge of future events to make himself into a "hero". Even when he becomes someone of real powers, it is difficult for other heroes to take his at all serious.

He was created in 1986 for DC Comics by Dan Jurgens.

Airlock Alpha writes:
  • There is no casting information available as of yet for the pilot, but it's unlikely that Eric Martsolf, who played Booster Gold on "Smallville," will make the move over. (pictured)

SfFy's Eureka canceled...Eureka NM Is Go!

Yep, you read that right. SyFy has canceled Eureka but that hasn't dampened the enthusiasm that Bob Brumley, the chief executive officer of Pegasus Global Holdings, has for Eureka....Eureka New Mexico that is.

This according to Mike Hinman writing for the Airlock Alpha blog. Brumley wants to invest $200 million to build a town on 20 square miles of land that he will call "The Center." It will be the model of a future city, completely self-sustaining with environmentally friendly technology. The new town will even be used as a place for scientists to live, experiment and test their innovations.

From the article:
  • A final site hasn't been chosen yet for The Center, but New Mexico's governor is working rather closely with Pegasus Global to finalize the deal and get construction underway.

Eureka Canceled?! Say it ain't so!

Mark Wilson over at About SF has some pretty distressing news for SF fans. One of the best shows to come out of SYFy's writing stable has been the quirky Eureka - a secret DOD facility in the guise of a small town, rife with ubber geeks and weird science. Mark reports that SY FY has backed out of any commitment past season 5, effectively ending the show at the end of season 5.

The really aggravating thing however is that this decision was not precipitated by ratings lagging but by the new merger ala wrastlin....

Warehouse 13 was renewed though...but Eureka?!!! come oooooooooonnnnnnnn!

Anyone else out there feeling as betrayed by Sy-Fy's actions as I am? Damn...I really like this show!

Mercurymen: New Syfy online series

I was reading through Boing Boing and I found a heads up for a new series from SyFy that is web only. The movie was made on a shoestring and harkens back to the old big screen movie serials. From the article:
  • The Mercury Men is a ... new Web series made for under $10,000 in Pittsburgh with ray guns, evil aliens and even a brain in a jar. It’s a modern homage to the black-and-white serials of the early 1900s featuring a mild mannered engineer who normally toils away at an office in obscurity until he stumbles on a plot by The Mercury Men to destroy Earth. It was picked up by Syfy for distribution and began running online lat week at SyFy.
There are seven episodes available so far. The first one is number 101 kind of tongue in cheek I guess (is it 101 episodes or 5. 101 in decimal is 5). I have seen the first couple of episodes and its campy, but not overboard like the network Batman series. The Steam Punk dress and weapons certainly are fun enough. I am certainly not adverse from watching more.

Mark Wilson calls SYFY Heartless and Pointless

Mark Wilson writing in his Science Fiction & Fantasy Blog about the recent cancellation of Stargate Universe had some really harsh words for SYFY.

In his article Mark stated:
  • This was a heartless mistake by the network--a mistake by which Syfy elected to announce to its viewers that it's willing to foot the bill for whimsical dramedies and pointless reality shows, but not actual science fiction.
  • With the death of SGU, replaced on its schedule by cooking shows, wrestling, and light fantasies, Syfy is now entering a period where it will experience more and more difficulty convincing science-fiction fans that it should be taken seriously.
Yep, pretty harsh. I have been saying for awhile now that it was really difficult to call SYFY a true platform of serious science fiction. For me the writing was on the wall when Farscape was summarily axed. The pattern now should be obvious even to the most catatonic now. Stargate, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica and now Stargate Universe and these are just the most obvious. Difficult to take serious, Mark? Impossible! They can not even bring themselves to call the network Sci Fi and do it with a straight face! Ghosts and wraslin, if that's your bag, you will love SYFY, Science fiction fans will have to look elsewhere.

A capella of Battlestar Galactica’s "All Along the Watchtower"

Now before you run screaming into the night, let me explain. First, for those of you that may not have followed SyFy's more dramatic retelling of Glen Larson's Battlestar Galactica, the closing music of the last episode of season 3 (I think it was three...anyone?) was a heavy bass backbeat with middle eastern overtone reworked version of All Along the Watchtower. It was hypnotic in the way the music rolled in and out (I really wish I had a copy to play, I even asked the artist if I could have a copy to play on the program, yeah, it was that good). So meandering through IO9 I came upon an even stranger version - An a capella version done by the Sacramento State Jazz Singers of the Bear McCreary's Battlestar version (confused yet? lol) and these people do a great job. And if you have never heard the BSG version, this group nails it. Take a listen in this video.

According to Mark at Mark's SF & Fantasy Blog on About:
  • Syfy will start airing (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) on April 7; after the two-hour premiere, they'll air four episodes a week on Thursdays starting at 7 p.m.
SyFy will play all of the series 31 episodes starring Lena Headey, Thomas Dekker, and Summer Glau...

Firefly back on TV

From an article in IO9 I read where the still very popular Science fiction series Firefly will once again grace the "small" screen.

The Science channel has purchased the rights to the series and will begin showing episodes March 6th at 8pm. The episodes then will be shown in proper sequence that was intended, each Sunday there after. The Science Channel is adding HD to the mix to spice things up a bit.

SYFY cancels SGU?! OH COME ON!

After SYFY yanked Caprica, I guess we shouldn't be surprised at any idiocy that comes out of corporate, but pulling the last of the Star Gate franchise, Stargate Universe seems almost like programming has had a break with reality!

For SGU fans:
  • According to Deadline, the remaining episodes in the show's second season will air in the spring
The 'Stargate' franchise has been on TV since 1997 but SGU lasted only 2 seasons starting in 2009.

Take heart though....I hear that there is a news smack down cummin fo da wrasslin fanns .... now where did I hide that razor....?

Yep you read that right. According to an article in the IO9 blog:
  • Syfy will air Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome in late 2011 or early 2012. The two-hour TV movie, which could serve as the pilot for another ongoing series, will focus on young William "Husker" Adama as a Viper pilot

Eureka go for a fifth!

ABOUT blog report that even though Eureka is only a few episodes into its' fourth season, The SyFy channel has decided to renew it for another season, based on how well the show is doing.

The number are in fact, very good. Since the fourth season started in July, each episode has averaged 3 million viewers each week.
