WTF?!! Solar Power Would Suck Up All The Power?

I usually don't do Earth sciences as for the most part they are not my forte so to speak. But sometime not saying anything is paramount to agreeing or supporting crackpot ideas.   For example....

A recent town meeting in Woodland North Carolina heard comments on a proposed solar energy plant.

What was surprising was the number of people who spoke out against the solar farm including a retired science teacher named Jane Mann.  One of Mz Mann's  concerns was that the array would suck up all the sun energy leaving none for the plants to conduct photosynthesis. Also she was concerned about the  jump in cancer deaths in the area, might be attributed to the solar power plant.  

Bobby Mann also agreed but went on to say that with the solar farm sucking up all the energy, new businesses would be disinclined to locate in Woodland.  The array would kill the town and young people would then move away.  

I am sorry, I don't even have to try, this stuff  writes itself!

TSA Confiscates Raygun Beltbuckle

Yes sir, you read that correctly - a TSA supervisor confiscated a raygun belt buckle belonging to one Sean Malone - Her reason being -  terrorism!  Wait, it gets better!

When Mr. Malone pressed the TSA agent for an explanation of the  confiscation, the agent's response was a hypothetical one of waving said belt buckle in a threatening manner.  This of course has to take place in front of a policeman in hopes he doesn't know the difference between a toy and as my mom would say his touchhole (use your imagination.....)

Totally Funny Rip on the 1997 Batman & Robin Movie

Batman & Robin was released in 1997 and right off the bat (I am not sure I intended that pun or not) people noticed that most of the movie didn't make any sense at all. Since then we have all seen at least one short video of Joel Schumacher demonstrating that he had totally lost his mind. So, why another one? Well, lets just say that this is the compendium of all compendiums. CinemaSins' offering here is the mother load of all that is stupid, insane, just plain wrong weirdness that leaves you wondering if anyone was awake behind the camera. Be prepared for a buttload of bat-s..t (yeah I meant that one)crazy nonsense!

Time Travelers, it would seem, Don't Like Facebook.....

Scientists at Michigan Technological University recently scoured sites such as Facebook, Google and Google+ in the hopes of finding the digital tracks of possible time travelers.  No, I am not kidding!  Someone got PAID to do this! 

The study took place in the latter part of 2013.  Scientists Robert Nemiroff and Teresa Wilson searched the internet for posts made between January 2006 and September 2013 that made some reference to future events happening after September 2013.   Unfortunately  nothing they found could be considered trustworthy, or even accurate!    On Facebook, for example, posts have the option to be backdated, which would have made any discoveries virtually useless.

But unfortunately, the hunt came up blank. (NO KIDDING!)

Ok, there isn't any reason on Earth for this to be here other than the fact that it is so DAMN funny!

As the Entertainment blog puts it: David Hasselhoff singing the Fresh Prince theme song” is a phrase Hump Day dreams were made of.

Vimeo user Matthijs_Vlot has created a video that has the former Baywatch star talking his way through every word of Will Smith’s opening fresh prince rap. Yes it is every bit as funny as you would expect it to be.  

 

End of the World?

Oh this is wrong in so many ways!  Watch these people react to ....well, the end of the world!

NASA's historic mobile launch platform, or MLPs, famous for holding Saturn 5s and the Shuttle as they made their way from the VAB to the launch area.  

 NASA presently owns 3 of these behemoths.  The agency is entertaining concepts for the potential use or divestment of three historic launch platforms that are not needed for the agency's current or planned future missions.  

Are you reading this correctly?  Key words.....Saturn, Shuttle.   I would add in unique and historic.

Can you say short sighted?  Irreplaceable?  Of course we have seen what Nasa considers mothballing or storage....

I Fear that the Human Race is Doomed....

I know, this isn't quite science and it certainly isn't fiction, but when members of the same, dare I say race?, do something so totally insane and lacking in any thing resembling foresight, makes me wonder if the race is worth preserving.....

What has got me in a tither today?  Well as many of you may not know there seems to be a systematic effort to decimate antiquities in central America.    Case in point Belize, several months ago a construction crew raze a 2300 year old Maya pyramid.  Why?  They were part of a road construction company and needed crushed rock for a new road bed!  

Ready for more....oh yeah, more and worse....

Peru, a complex of 5000 year old  pyramids, yeah plural, there were  12, were demolished by two construction companies.  One of the oldest constructions ..... gone.   Oh and to make matter worse if that is at all possible, the site was later burned by several clandestine groups that entered the site

What the hell is going one?!!!  This is insane!

Justin Bieber is Going Where? For How Much Money?!!

 My little motorcycle friend delights in dropping bombs on me and this one is no exception.  First off we know what Virgin Galactic is right?   Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo, a six-passenger, two-pilot spaceship.  A ride costs $250,000 and will take you to an altitude of about 68 miles plus at apogee giving you a few minutes to experience zero gravity.

Well that being as it may, if you have a quarter mill not doing anything productive, you can give it to Richard Branson to be dangled from and then dropped of a perfectly fine airplane only to be kicked in the ass by the mother of all Hydrogen peroxide rocket.

So far about 500 have sighed on to do just that!    Some really notable names too.  People like physicist Stephen Hawking as well as  Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt.   Even a bit stranger at an auction some one paid 1.2 million for the right to sit next to  Leonardo DiCaprio.  Plus Ashton Kutcher is number 500.  

But when Justin Bieber signed up....well the life went out of me a little bit.  NO NOT because is was some rich kid who wants to take an A ticket ride it was me mental case of a manager  Scooter Braun, whom Bieber also bought a ticket, said that they were the latest "future astronauts." and Bieber tweeted  "let's shoot a music video in SPACE!!"

Excuse me....I need to go now.... I just threw up in my mouth......

Killer Dolphins Have Gone Missing

Out of what can only be reasonably described as that of a B movie about rogue mutant animals trained by mad scientists to kill all humans, comes the reality that the Ukrainian Navy may have a "broken arrow" situation on their hands!

Not some wayward missile, but initially a report I read on the Justin Gregg blog!  It started with a report from the Russian New Agency that reported that three of the Ukrainian military’s trained and armed dolphins had gone AWOL. 

Oh and hey wait, it gets stranger!  This report spread like wildfire over the web with photo-shopped photos of what the "armed" creatures looked like.   Check out the photos here!

But as all good things come to an end, so did this crazy story thread.  It seems that the voice of Russia, RIA Novosti appear to have sources at Sebastopol.  However the "sources" information would prove to be fictitious.  But not before the web had spread this "true" story to every corner.

I know more than a couple of you are going to get pissed with me posting this, but I find it fascinating how deluded these people really are. Their logic is is complete and under it's own bears up well to scrutiny. It is only when you start putting a BS filter to it that things begin to break down. Just enough truth to make it sound plausible. Check it out. It really is frightening knowing that these people may gain a power base!

I was reading down through some of the new posts on Boing Boing when I came to this "photo" from Zeni Jardin which in essence is a capture from LiveSTRONG.com.  The article depicts the popularity of Kraft's Velveeta processed American Cheese.  However the complete article is changed with one very unfortunate error.  See if you can find it.

You know I just could not stay away from this one!  I really thought it was a joke when I saw the first link on Boing Boing.  Especially when it liked out to an article named:

Stranger still, it seems to be legit!  Links lead to PLOS: Neglected Tropical Diseases and talks about hook worms and other fecal egg counts....HONEST!!!  of course it is some of the methodology that set me over the juvenile edge.    Stuff like 

• 222 samples were collected....not saying a thing....each sample was cut into four pieces.  (turd cutter....hows that for a job description...I think I need professional help) 
• and of course this line "Some samples were homogenized"  
• and the infamous " keeping collected stool samples cool and moist

Not making fun of important research,  but I am totally amazed at some of the projects  and some of the people who contribute....that might have been a poor choice of words....
