Ok, now for all you Binks bashers, here is something to warm the cockles as they say.

Death Star Supporters Head to Kickstarter

It seems that the US government has not found the building of a Star Wars Death Star practical.  However the supporters are far from deterred!  Supporters have turned to the crowd funding project Kickstarter to raise the 31 million it would take to design the thing.

So far their efforts have raised 31 thousand dollars!  But as NBCNEWS.COM points out in their article:

  • The funding deadline? April Fool's Day.
Of course 31 million only gets you plans on "how to build a Death Star" because the cost of a functional "Star" would set you back a whopping $850 quadrillion!

Of course the odd man out in this stunt is Kickstarter itself.  I suspect they are not finding the "april fool" at all funny......

Star Wars Christmas Special....are you kidding me?!

Ok, Barry floored me with this heads up! This is a documentary clip about the ill-fated Star Wars Holiday Special

First off, my disclaimer is that I am not a follower of the Star Wars universe, no, I am probably one of the most ill informed Trekee ever but I know enough to start an argument if need be! lol.

On the flip side however I did follow Star Wars through the late seventies and early eighties. So when Barry blows in and said

  •  "This is a documentary clip about the ill-fated Star Wars Holiday Special."
I was whaaaaaaaaaa Christmas?  Star Wars?  Have any of you ever heard of this?  It is not a prank!  There really IS a Christmas Star Wars special and it is in the wind!

So far, from what I have gleaned is this is most likely one of the worst pieces of Television in existence today bar none.  Lucas has been heard to day that.....well, watch the clip, be prepared to be dumbfounded.

That is just a short taste.  If you like having your eyes burned out and a major big gulp of pain, point your browser here "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFB627wyzR0"   and Kallamis points out that if you have the fortitude to want to watch thespecial, he found a link to part one here

A Scale Model of an X-Wing Fighter Made of What?

Check this out!  Now this is what I call dedication!  What we have here is a model of an X-Wing fight.  That in and of itself is not that noteworthy, nor, if we want to be picky is the great attention to detail.  But consider how inebriated the person had to be during testing fitting and construction!  Amazing! Using nothing more than Beer cans no less.

Here is a link to the flickr account that hosts the models. (no I am not going to make an AA jokes...to easy)

Skywalker Hand Real!

Wow, on a prosthetic kick here I guess, but even so, this is damn cool.  Remember that scene after Vader lops off Luke's hand?  He is laying there wiggling his fingers and then the tech closes it up?  Well check out this video of the Bebionic3 is a myoelectric prosthetic hand.  This device is damn close!

From the Dvice blog article:
The hand (has) the ability to write with pen, delicately hold glasses and bottles, and even crack eggs.

Featuring a range of 14 hand positions and grips...  You can see patient Nigel Ackland using the Bebionic3 prosthetic hand in the video below.

Why Darth Vader May Not be a Good Party Planner

Every year, Disney puts on a series of Star Wars weekends. Disney's Idea Generator Matt Buchanan leads off the brainstorming sessions where he will field ideas from the collaborative group.

Here however is one such event where Star Wars characters themselves join the the process. Sith Lord Vader even takes a crack at some core events that he feels would be interesting.

Don't miss this hilarious "behind the scenes" look at the brainstorming process.

The piƱata suggestion is particularly funny in a twisted kind of way.

Honest to God Star Wars Toy!?

On the hunt for gifts that I can give to friends that are true Star Wars fans, an web search brought me this "gem"  so artfully name Star Wars Destroyed Alderaan Playset!

As you can see from the photo I found on-site that said play set is for all intents a box of not even rocks but what appears to be slag from a coke furnace!   I guess for the Star Wars fan that has everything - a bag of toasted coal!  yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaie!

Sorry I don't have a price list or for that matter anyone "really" selling it...lmao

Frozen Lightsaber Battle

Here is a neat little shot of a flash mob gathering in Time Square 12/20/11 consisting of Sith Lords and Jedi in a freeze frame Light Saber battle that, to the surprise of bystanders, average people on the sidelines also took place in. It seems this was a promotional stunt for the game Star Wars: The Old Republic. Looked like fun!

Man Assult Three With Light Saber

Yep, you heard right - from OregonLive.com via Boing Boing comes the story of a suspect, identified only as a 33-year-old man, who was arrested for assaulting three people with a blue light saber at a local Toys R Us.

Officers arriving on scene tried to arrest the man, but he kept swinging the light saber at them. One officer's taser failed to work while another officer used his taser and made contact, but the man knocked one of the wires away with the light saber.

After his arrest he was being held, pending a mental evaluation. He faces "several criminal charges" after he is evaluated.

None of the victims of the light saber assault needed medical attention.

From "The Piano Guys" comes a very funny and untimatly entertaining Star Wars tribute with cellos and light sabers no less. The production itself is amazing described at one point as the most demanding they had ever undertaken. Overall it took 70 days, more than 7,000 frames, 72 audio tracks, 24 hours of filming in front of a green screen. Enjoy

Could a real-life "Star Wars" AT-AT be Built?

Mike Koehler's wants to bring his AT-AT For America dream to reality. From the Boing Boing Article:
  • Heiko Hoffman, a robotics expert at HRL Laboratories in Malibu, CA. says, Making a modern-day robotic walker is not impossible, but it easily could cost $100 million or more.
The first decision is, do you make it just to "look" like an AT-AT or do you build the 50 foot quad-armored walker? The reason being a full scale build may be upwards of a hundred times the model sizes but the materials used in construction would have stresses of up to 1000 times that of the mock ups and that not only stresses the main sections but puts huge stresses on the leg joints. Though the "statically stable" walking method would work, moving anything faster than a slow shuffle would be impossible. As the movie showed even having a working AT-AT is not enough. Rebels took one down with comparatively simpler and far less expensive tech.

Realistically building something that "looks" like an Imperial Walker would be far cheaper and every bit as cool.
