A Scale Model of an X-Wing Fighter Made of What?

Check this out!  Now this is what I call dedication!  What we have here is a model of an X-Wing fight.  That in and of itself is not that noteworthy, nor, if we want to be picky is the great attention to detail.  But consider how inebriated the person had to be during testing fitting and construction!  Amazing! Using nothing more than Beer cans no less.

Fire-Fly Fans - New Serenity Model available

Eoghann confirms that if you are a Fire-Fly fan and haven't got a couple of kilobucks to spare on huge models of Serenity then this 1:400th scale model might just be what will keep you happy through the dark months. Researchers believe human brain replication in 10 years

From ScienceDaily: Neuroscientists from the Brain Mind Institute in Switzerland say that a model that replicates the functions of the human brain is feasible within ten years.

Professor Henry Markram claims that the complexity of the human mind is not a barrier to building a model. The brain contains trillions of synapses and billions of neurons, but it is still a finite number. Given the sophistication of today's technology, it is now possible to conceive of "reverse engineering" the brain.

The problem today is that no one even knows what we already understand about the brain.

• For Professor Markram, the most exciting part of his research is putting together the hundreds of thousands of small pieces of data that his lab has collected over the past 15 years, and seeing what a microcircuit of the brain looks like.

Model Builder Creates 3 Story Model of Saturn V - That Flies!

Here is a really interesting story in Rocketry Planet which concerns a man's fascination with the
Apollo space program. In particular the largest rocket NASA ever built - the massive Saturn lifting system commonly known as Saturn V. Steve Eves has been interested in rockets since astronauts first stepped onto the Moons surface. This lead him to experiment with model rockets and will cumulate in the near future with the launch of the largest model rocket ever built. Eves has built a 1/10 scale model of the Saturn V that stands over 3 stories in height and weighs in at almost a ton and when all the engines are installed, the model will have eight thousand pounds of static thrust. This certainly isn't the type of rocket you launched as a child.

Mercury and Mars - Leftover Planets.

Adding another wrinkle to the difficult task of categorizing planets, a new computer model suggests that Mercury and Mars were formed from particles ejected during the formation of Earth and Venus.

The computer model by UCLA astronomer Brad Hansen was a result of flaws in the traditional of assumption of an evenly distributed particle disk during planetary formation. One obvious flaw being that this should have resulted in the rocky planets all being essentially the same size. Hansen "proposes that the dust disk fragmented into bands of debris at various distances from the sun—much like the rings of Saturn." In this theory Earth and Venus formed in one large band, hence their similar sizes, while Mercury and Mars were formed mostly from particles ejected from the main band by the gravity of the larger planets.

One good aspect of theory is that it makes predictions that can be tested. This model predicts that "the composition of the solar system's four rocky planets should be strikingly similar" while the standard model predicts that they should vary in accordance with their distance from the sun.

A truely unusual robot cockpit

Oh Gizmodo is going to be the ruination of me yet. But really... I have been good, I haven't made any scatological references in months, I haven't compared anyone's physiology to certain planetary objects in a year or better, and come on - if I didn't make at least one juvenile reference at lease once a month, you would suspect that I was what - ill and sick don't apply, we already know that - not myself?

Ok - so, when you think about it ( no strike that - I think I already broke something laughing) the placement does make a ..... ok I just can't do it.

This robot model, called Chubu 01, was designed by Kazushi Kobayashi in Japan - and I suspect that it was made with those people in mind who have a childish sense of humor. and sadly the kit is only availble in Japan.
