castAR Will Blow Your Mind!

Hey catch this video from the Kickstarter program for this new VR rig that is also an AR system.  It is called castAR, don't forget that name because I am willing to bet that this just could be a big changer in how game, computers, movies you name it....this looks like the real deal.

Portal: Terminal Velocity a short film by Jason Craft

Holy S... you got to check out this really clever short based on the "Portal Gun" as in the game Portal 2. The short is called Portal: Terminal Velocity, and is from the very active imagination of Jason Craft.

Here is what he had to say about his creation:

• My interpretation of what a real Portal gun would be like if one existed. Based on the video game, Portal. I tried to match the game as close as possible. This was the most challenging project I have ever undertaken, consisting of 3D tracking, seamless camera cuts and 3D camera projection. ENJOY! 

Laura Shighara sings Everything's Alright

Rob Bricken over at the Topless Robot blog has been waxing eloquent about the indie game "To The Moon" and one of the most adorable thing he mentions is one of the songs from the game, Everhthing's Alright was sung by Laura Shighara. This peeked my interest and lucky me I see that there is a Youtube video. He is right, the song is cute and certainly worthy of a play.

Frozen Lightsaber Battle

Here is a neat little shot of a flash mob gathering in Time Square 12/20/11 consisting of Sith Lords and Jedi in a freeze frame Light Saber battle that, to the surprise of bystanders, average people on the sidelines also took place in. It seems this was a promotional stunt for the game Star Wars: The Old Republic. Looked like fun!

Fan Made Portal Movie

Portal fans will appreciate this fan made short. Made by Dan Trachtenberg it is called Portal: No Escape and it is amazing just how good this production is.

Get ready to Boldly Go - Star Trek online has started

Tim Sayell points out an article in Plugged In reporting what for many will be a red letter day or as Plugged In said "Red Shirt" because Cryptic Studios has taken the MMORPG - Star Trek out of beta that it has been running in since December of 09 and into a brave new world. Yes, now you can be the captain of a Federation warship or Klingon warlord or anything that strikes your fantasy in Star Trek's online world.

Star Trek online is for all intents a combat simulation, which may disappoint many fans hoping for a more complete Star Trek universe. Plus it is set so far into the future of the Star Trek we all cut out teeth on that none of the characters we know in various Star Trek outing are present (code for alive) in this time line. So if you were hoping to hobnob with Kirk or Picard you will be very disappointed.

Also another bone of contention is the price for the privilege. First is a hefty initial outlay of $50 for the main game and then $14.99 a month to blow up the baddies. Which may prove to be to rich for a narrow game-play platform. Time will tell.

What's The Game In Ender's Game?

In IO9 I read that Chair Entertainment Group is planning on developing a series of games based on Orson Scott Card's novel. It is unclear yet if they intend to emulate the games played by "Ender" or that they will tell the story contained in the novel in game form. The company does say that the first game will be based on one of the games that Ender plays during his training.

Humm, sounds interesting, I would be interested in trying something like that out, just to see their take on that portion of Ender's "training"
