Get A Life!

Xnews man sends in an article from the NY Daily News concerning one of the funniest and one of the most iconic phrases spoken by a science fiction television show personality. I even remember seeing this episode of SNL where William Shatner faces a gathering of fanatical (and faux) "Trekies". After a stream of inane questions from the fans, Shatner informs the gathering in frustration to "get a life!"

Never one to let an opportunity pass, Shatner went on to pen a book in 1999 called “Get a Life!,” exploring the cult of “Star Trek” fans and conventions.

Expanding on the 1999 book, Shatner now plans to host a documentary of the same name.

“Get A Life!,” is set mostly at the 2011 Las Vegas Star Trek convention. It features interviews with fans from around the world who travel to the gatherings, as well as cast members from the franchise.

Life copying art copying life....

Shatner Says Abrams Wants Him and Nimoy In Star Trek XI

From the Trek Movie Report:

For months now William Shatner has made no secret that he wants to be in Star Trek XI, and even Leonard Nimoy has said he would come out of retirement for something substantial. We also know that both actors have consulting/promotional contracts for the film and have spoken with producer JJ Abrams. Now in a new interview with IGN, The Shat says that Abrams is writing them into the script:

"he seem to be going in the direction of putting in [Leonard]Nimoy and myself. But in order to do that, it’s a difficult story to write. So they’re in the midst of wrestling with all of that."

He also says that if Abrams wants the original Kirk and Spock, it better be more than just a cameo:

"I’m not sure what they’re going to do. But in order to entice Leonard and myself into the movie, it has to be meaningful in some way, so I don’t know what they’re gonna do."

Star Trek fans ticked off by Shatner's clothes

According the the blog TV Squad, Star Trek fans are screaming bloody murder over the cloths that William Shatner is wearing in the new Direct TV commercial. Shatner reprises his role as James T. Kirk (with the assistance of a few of the original Star Trek crew) to plug the virtues of using the alternative to cable TV service. I found the send up of himself amusing and very much in style with say his discount travel ads or Boston Legal etc. Here are a few of the complaints that fans aired...
  • the Starfleet badge is too small
  • the collar is too small
  • the belt buckle is wrong
Bob Sasone of TV Squad just says "I think his hair piece looks terrible!" ummm yeah, I will give Bob that one...
