Killer Dolphins Have Gone Missing

Out of what can only be reasonably described as that of a B movie about rogue mutant animals trained by mad scientists to kill all humans, comes the reality that the Ukrainian Navy may have a "broken arrow" situation on their hands!

Not some wayward missile, but initially a report I read on the Justin Gregg blog!  It started with a report from the Russian New Agency that reported that three of the Ukrainian military’s trained and armed dolphins had gone AWOL.

Oh and hey wait, it gets stranger!  This report spread like wildfire over the web with photo-shopped photos of what the "armed" creatures looked like.   Check out the photos here!

But as all good things come to an end, so did this crazy story thread.  It seems that the voice of Russia, RIA Novosti appear to have sources at Sebastopol.  However the "sources" information would prove to be fictitious.  But not before the web had spread this "true" story to every corner.

You can read more at the RIA Novosti page

and where I found it first on the Justin Gregg site

Parachuting Dolphins armed with CO2 Hypodermics?]!

Remember in the 60 and early 70s reports of the US Navy training dolphins for various underwater duties?  Some were trained to retrieve sunken equipment, find and mark bombs for later detonation and a somewhat serious placing magnetic bombs on ships.  Remember that?   Then we never heard of it, but the project remained in operation until the next century!  Matter of fact the practice of using marine mammals until 2017!

They hope to replace all of the mammal operations with the autonomous with the above pictured  Knifefish but it seems that the animals will not be discontinued all together.  According to Device the US Navy feels that there may still be some specialized missions where sea mammals are needed past 2017.

And believe it or not, the the Ukrainian Navy wants to test another aspect of dolphin-skill: how they do wielding weapons.  As bizarre as it seems or Austin Powerish  it seems that at least one country has taken protection.   Here is an excerpt from the Dvice blog:
Russian commandos have trained to fight dolphins in case that ever became a reality, and the Soviet Navy once deployed dolphins that were armed with syringes loaded with carbon dioxide. Those Soviet dolphins also were trained to attach mines onto ships and parachuted out of helicopters.

Terry Crews Takes the Ole Spice Weirdness one Step Around the Bend!

ok, not Science fiction or even science, but those of you that have followed me here and on the program know that at time I just get.....well I am not even sure of the definition, but suffice it to say, when it happens, the weirder the better.

Now if you have seen the Ole Spice deodorant commercials featuring Terry Crews you have experienced a special kind of weird hilarity. Crews has played everything from a muscle bound foot ball lineman, a psychotic killer to a frazzled family man. One of Crews' "talents" is almost superhuman control of single muscle groups, being able to isolate and flex with total concentration.

Well it was bound to happen and rejoice in the madness for Crews has devised a one man band for remix. Transdermal patches pick up the muscle activity and translate it to mechanical energy, which is used to play musical instruments. Between Crews demeanor and the macabre interconnection and Crews remix rap, the end effect is disturbing and funny at the same time.

And to think that it continues after the film to a fully inter-active remix only leads to the total weirdness. Check it out and be prepared to be affected for some time to come.

Kodak Had the Bomb? WTF?

Boy do I have a real WTF article for you! It is so far out there that I really had to wonder if it was BMU material. Well it does in a round about way have a science component and it is strange enough to qualify in some sort of way. But wow, this is really out there.

What am I going on about? Well from the Gizmodo article comes a story so weird that you have to check the date just to make sure some one isn't screwing with my head:

  • Down in a basement in Rochester, NY, they (Kodak)  had a nuclear reactor loaded with 3.5 pounds of enriched uranium—the same kind they use in  warheads....
Why did Kodak have a hidden nuclear reactor loaded with weapons-grade uranium?  How did they get permission to even own it? And Kodak was allowed to set it up in a densely populated area, no less!   Whats more no one seemed to know about it.  City officials, police, fire,  no one it seems in the state of  New York, only a handful of engineers and government officials knew anything pertaining to the reactor -  and they still wouldn't had it not been for a disgruntled employee.

It seems it's main purpose was to check for material impurities and other even more obscure purposes.  But it is the whole idea that since the material and reactor was obtained in 1974 it has been a closely guarded piece of information.

In 2006 the reactor was ordered dismantled due in part to rising security concerns but still well after 9/11.  Strange goings on...

The Machines ARE Taking Over

Dan brought me this article by Cecilia Kang of the Washington Post that points out a fact that we all kind of suspect but never realized just how bad/good or just plain weird it really is. Cecilia writes that there are apx 328 million phones, tablets, laptops on cell networks. The weird thing is there are only 315 million Men, women and children in the US, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam. That's 4% more wireless phones than there are people, which kinda points to the likelihood that a lot of people have more than 1 cellular device....weird.

Also what people do with these wireless devices often vexes. Talking on the phone goes without saying....but where people choose to talk is...you know what I am talking about. Also it's a matter of not just talking on the phone but browsing the internet or sending email. Often the materials that are being sent on wireless devices that aggravate many recipients.

And what do I find today? That Weird Al has been aggravated by the same thing for many years and has written a well timed protest song. Check it out. "Stop Forwarding that Crap to Me" by "Weird Al" Yankovic

Is the LHC's bad luck coming from the future?

Oh, here is a wonderfully weird piece submitted by Shaun Saunders that he found in the U.K. Telegraph.

It seems as the article states in the opening:
  • The much-delayed and maligned Large Hadron Collider has been hit by its most outlandish claim to date - it is being sabotaged by its own future.
HUH? Yep you read that right. Right out of sci-fi there is speculation that the run of bad luck is in fact sabotage. And not just normal sabotage, but sabotage from the future!

Are we talking about med taking wackos? Nope, it seems that a couple of well known physicists are claiming nature itself is stopping the troubled project from getting off the ground.

Their hypothesis is based on a weird particle called the Higgs Boson, thought to be the building block of life and one of the particles that it is hoped the LHC will discover.

Ok, so it is almost like the particle doesn't want to be discovered. But the scientists are making the supposition that the LHC DID make one in the future. However in creating the particle, it sends ripples down the space / time line back before the particle was discovered and stops the collider before it could make one.

Weird enough for you? Well, its not without president, read the complete article by clicking on the title.

A pilot for Paul Reubens

Thanks to TVSQUAD for this gem

It seems that pesky little problem has finally left Paul Reubens behind. (of course from my perspective - its not his behind that the pesky little problem has to leave, but then, that's just me......PAC) He has been cast as the lead in a pilot for NBC called Area 52. He'll play the role of an alien who is being housed in a government facility. Ahhhh does anyone have trouble picturing Rubens as an alien.....didn't think so. Paul Reubens has done all sorts of guest starring roles on television, most recently on Dirt and 30 Rock, since his arrest for public ummm......oooh....ahhhh... well you get the point. He is also currently filming Pee-Wee's Playhouse: The Movie-- further proof that his past is now behind him.

(if my mic dies during this article....I'm sorry, I really am trying to be good....honest! links I've just got to remember it's links)

Giant rabbits to feed North Korea's hunger!

Well, this post certainly isn't science fiction! It really isn't even science. But it sure is weird enough! Remember the story "Food of the Gods"? Yep, thats all I could think of!

Karl Szmolinsky, a 67 year old, of East Germany has bred rabbits the size of dogs! He reciently was asked by North Korea's ambassador whether he might be willing to sell some rabbits to set up a breeding farm in North Korea.

Each of Karl's 'German Grey Monsters' weigh about 15 pounds and can be used to feed 8 people.

Even China are interested in his German Grey Rabbits and may be potential buyers in the future, but Karl has said that he will not increase his production to satisfy growing demands in Asia.
