Chris Hadfield's Space Oddity Back on YouTube!

Earlier this year Chris Hadfield (a Canadian astronaut)  posted a wonderful rendition of David Bowie's Space Oddity to YouTube (while he was doing an extended mission aboard the ISS) — It was later removed because of a lack of permissions. Now, David Bowie has given the go ahead for it to be online once more.  As a side note, YouTube shows the views as well over 23 million!

John Anealio releases a new album

I play a piece of music from anime series shortly after my opening monologue.

The first piece of short fiction comes from the pen of Muzz called Quest which is one of the most twisted pieces I have read for some time.

From the Beam Me Up blog  Airbus has a patent for a windowless cocpit for future planes.

Researchers are working on a device that could help will a variety of brain damage syndromes.

Dave Scholes is offering his newest collection of short stories called Daughter of the High Lords on Amazon.

I review the newest Robocop remake.

CrystalWizard has let me read her newest series called  Sojourn Chronicle and we will be having all 6 books!  I start this week with book 1 chapter 1 part 1.  The Chronicle is good speculative fiction not only pure sci-fi but neither is is fantasy.

For an opening to this week's program I start with Mushi - shi opening song "The Sore Feet Song" by Ally Kerr.  For fans, there is a follow on season now available.

This week from the blog, the canceled boost glide tech used in the Boeing X20 Dyna Soar that originated in the 50s and canceled by the end of the decade.  The weird thing? Maybe it wasn't all that canceled?

Next I review the movie "On The Beach" based on the Nevil Shute novel of the same name.

There may be more proof that the Moon WAS created by a giant impactor.

Again the Hubble Space Telescope has taken ground breaking deep field photos that will change a lot of what we know about the formation of the early universe.

Sorry for the wait here, however in truth, I was sure that I had the notice up.  Now don't get me wrong, after I edited the audio from the radio program, the podcast went up.  But.....

After some opening comments on thise weekend’s Beam Me Up (episode 399).  I again play Love is coming back from an anime classic, this time I again posit the question, does the artist at times sound like an early Rod Stewart at times?

First up is a op ed piece from my favorite op/ed writer Kallimus and he is in good for this week!!!!
While my opening info peice concerns a low gravity simulation lab.  Better known as the vomit rockets.  And an unusual use of these devices.

Beam Me Up episode 396 Now online

Here we go with another installment of Beam Me Up.  This is episode 396.

The first thing I play today is a track off John Aneilo's newest album Walk the Fire, and wow, does he have a winner here.  The cut I play is "The Ferryman" and this song hits you where you live.

Next is a short piece called "The Loaner" Dave Rigby.

I spend a bit of time on Twilight zone trivia

Then from the Beam Me Up blog: Opportunity Rover celebrates it's 10th anniversary on Mars this year.  The Sun may not bake the Earth into a cinder as soon as we thought.......How was the Milky Way galaxy formed?  I close this week with episode 24 of "The Dark Inspectre Series" by Jason Kahn.

Amazing in Motion Video by Lexus Featuring the Music of Kristina Train

Have you seen this amazing commercial by Lexus called Amazing In Motion "Steps" which features 11 foot tall metal puppets and  the song Wandering sung by Kristina Train which is a cover of the Aretha Franklin’s soul classic, ‘I’m Wandering’... .

The commercial is unusual in many ways because first it does not depict a real product, instead centers around an 11 foot tall lattice work puppet, brought to live by puppeteers dress in black holding control rods attached to key points along the puppet's frame and moving it in a very convincing lifelike manner.  Throughout the commercial, the puppet seems to be hunting throughout the city for something not brought to life until the very end.  

The short is a wonderful mix of scenery  acting and music.

We All Are Copyright Infringement Criminals!

Oh yes, it is true!  I have to admit that I suspect even myself am in danger of prosecution and a large fine for just such heinous infraction.  Truthfully I did not and was not aware that my actions were a felony, and since ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse.  Now that I have been informed, I must admit that I have witnessed equally felonious behavior myself.

What has me so spooked you may wonder?  Well in a note from the FreeMusic Archive: Time Warner will charge you ten grand in fines if you infringe on their copyright and use \ perform their product in a public forum.  

That is what has me worried for I myself have  used   this product in public.  Matter of fact, several time alone in 2012.

And what is this product that Time Warner is so willing to sue you if you use it?  It is a simple six note song with words that TW says they will defend their copyright with all due diligence.

You see, Time Warner owns " Happy Birthday"

I have now decided that yes indeed, the world has gone insane.

The Ballad of Felix Baumgatner

Well unless you live in a cave you know that Felix Baumgartner jumped from the stratosphere right into the history books.

To commemorate the effort songwriter John Anealio  says he watched it live with his son and it inspired him to write a new song about it.  Called "The Ballad of Felix Baumgartner"

John of Symphony has several works in progress. He writes about this compilation: Symphony of Science is still alive and well, and there will be new videos released shortly.

John's biggest project is called Terra Lumina. He describes it as an original, full length folk/rock album all about science. The Terra Lumina project is being funded by a kick-starter campaign that you can hear the proposal from the man himself here Sounds like a worthy project to me!

This is What One Violin, Two Voices and 120 Tracks Will Get You

Remember the Zelda Girl back a few months ago. Just her violin and her voice, plus added goofiness of running around the scenery in costume. Her name was Lindsey Sterling. Well Lindsey is at it again. She has enticed Peter Hollens to join her, and add to the running around in costume, in the snow. The end results, mixing down 120 tracks containing just their two voices and her violin, is Skyrim. Now if you follow the multi-track scene even a little, you may recognize Hollens who is very talented in this venue. So what they wind up with is a hugely complex multi voice and instrument music video.

Beam Me Up episode 297 now online

Wow does it go fast in Beam Me Up episode 297!

I start off with a new Symphony of Science titled  The Greatest Show on Earth and I follow it up with another piece of music – When Will You Die?  from They Might be Giants.

Not slowing a bit I play episode three of Erin Bassett’s Clockwork.  This week, tensions begin to build higher as classes start in earnest and Ester once again finds that she is in the midst of the same group of antagonists. However the mysterious Holland seems to always be at the right place and right time to keep things from spiraling completely out of control. However he seems to know more about Ester than he is letting on!

Next up Ron Huber gives us a great review of Under the Moons of Mars: The new Adventures of Barsoom. Ron gives us a great review of the Simon and Shuster release due out 2/12/12.

And at the bottom of the hour I play the conclusion of Beautiful Dreamer by Edward McKeown.  In part 2 Sagawa is confident that her dream will pervail, and Taluma can not muster the confidence to dream her people’s future. But after aiding the human child Brittony to gain memories of her mother she may have gained more than just a grateful child but a powerful ally in the dream!

Beam Me Up episode 295 now online

This week on episode 295 of Beam Me Up I start with Alexander Perls song Data Base just to get the blood pumping.  Then just to start a slow boil I rant a moment about an old Apollo 13 note book containing some of the calculations Jim Lovell used to bring his battered craft home.   Next a short from Earth Sky asking do meteors make noise when they enter the atmosphere, even Xnewsman says that yes they do and he has experienced it!  Fascinating!

Our first story is a strange tale of time travel and murder called the Lightening Gun by Antoinette Rydyr.  

From here we progress to the Beam Me Up Blog for a review of the blu-ray / dvd  of Captain America the First Avenger,  certainly not a terrible movie.  Next I see that ST:TNG is going to get an HD remastering that is truly stunning!  Look for the upgraded video later in 2012.    Did you hear that scientists have succeeded in hiding an object in both space AND time?  Could moons of gas giant planets that are in the habitable zone possibly harbor life?  There are several really big problems on sending people to the stars, I speak on what I think are the top 3 most important and difficult to overcome problems.  Finally what kind of gift do you get the Star Wars Fan just about Everything?  I think I may have found, if not the best choice, the most ….well....I will let you be the judge!
