Beam Me Up episode #462

In episode 462 the main story is Accidental Death, a bit of a “flash from the past” from author Peter Bailey.

News from the blog: first off from Kallamus is comments on the Chronicles of Shinara and Star Trek. Next are my observations on “Space 1999” plus where they can play a behind the scenes short, this concerning the intricate modeling of the ships that was done.  Next, with new detectors, it may be within scientists’ reach to observe gravity Waves.

Has the 9th planet truly been discovered?

Carole sent in photos of folks that will most likely be future inductees into the Darwin Awards list.
That about ties it up for another episode.  I hope you enjoy the podcast.

Beam Me Up Podcast eps 461 Now Onlineline

This week on episode 461 of Beam Me Up I play a short story from David Scholes at a quarter to the hour - called, There Will Not Be Time.  One of the oddest tales of Time Travel since I read Poul Anderson's Tau Zero. David is strutting his stuff with this one.  Tightly written, terse plot and even though nothing moves, a great deal of action.  Can you tell I liked it?

From the Beam Me Up blog:

It may be possible to see black holes with little more than  an 8" optical telescope!

SpaceX reports that the recent launch and return landing of it's Falcon 9 booster showed no ill effects and in founder Elon Musk's words "ready to fire again!"

I review the animated feature Inside Out.  Very cute if a bit intense at times.

The question has been posited...How big was the universe before the Big Bang?  Any bets, some might start to drool just thinking about this one!

Kallamis gives us "I just couldn't resist" and it is FUN NY"

Plus a few other fill ins.  Enjoy!

BMU #458 Now Online

I start off episode 458 with observations concerning stupid questions and even stupider answers by the political pundits vying for the office of the  President.

My musical selection was A Glorious Dawn by Symphony of Science.

From the Beam Me Up blog http://wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com/  a couple of new planets have been discovered, but don't look for either to be life bearing.

I review "Terminator Genesis"

And close with episode 36 of Jason Kahn's In Plain Sight

Beam Me Up # 451 Now Online

I start the program with a list I love (The Darwin Award) and Joe helped light the fire.
Here we are looking at a 20 year study of the award and results.

How about a cut by Patti Smith singing an ode to the passing of the Aqua Aqua Team Hunger Force called Aqua Team Dream?

The first story for the afternoon "A Bright Future" by Jamie Lackey. A good robot story with one of the best realizations of city so sleazy and filthy that you will want to bathe afterwards!

 From the blog:
bad news from SyFy
The Universe

The ending story, "The Oricle is Never Wrong" by J.C. Bedford

BMU 449 is online with a story "Deep Web" from David Scholes

welcome to Beam Me Up, episode 449.

This week I gripe about the lack real news or at least news that isn’t focused on death and depravity!

I take a break and play “Luna Industries” theme music for the movie “Moon”.

From there I found an article describing the sling shot effect that the larger planets have on smaller craft.

The Keplier space telescope has made a startling new discovery.

Finally, David Scholes’ story “Bad Dreams” finishes out the week.

Enjoy

BMU #446 is Now Online

Welcome to Beam Me Up episode 446.

This week I start with a slightly (ok I will admit it....off the wall) musical selection that started as a bet with Joe, a frequent listener. We shall see if I at least captured the spirit....

Next I touch lightly on number bases (like we use a base 10 system, computers use base 1 and ultimately base 8 for bits and bytes) followed  by a review of the movie Interstellar.  A movie with an (do I dare???)  interstellar cast.  I know, groan.....

Then I traveled onto Mr. Stanger's excellent story The English Dead.  I was hoping to get the rest of the story done but ran out of time, so we shall include it in 447.

The Plus side is that there were a couple of minutes I could utilize for an additional blog entry, so.....

I saw a short film on Barycentric Systems, which are  how primary and  satellite systems behave.

I hope that some of these articles intrigues you.

BMU #444 online Now

Hi, welcome to episode 444 of Beam Me Up

After opening, I play a fairly smooth and quiet piece of anime music
leading up to the 25th anniversary of Hubble with just a few discussion
points concerning Hubble as one of the single greatest research tool of the 20th century.

From the blog a  short film on the paradoxes of time travel which proves very funny, New Horizons nears to it flyby of Pluto, I comment on the ultimate failure of Alton Musk's Falcon booster, Carole sent me an article on electric space craft engine.

Kallimus sends in an article about a new cable program hosted by Neal DeGrasse which sounds fascinating!

There are a few more articles..

Lastly is The English Dead by Vaughn Stanger part two.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

From the BMU blog wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com, I review The Maze Runner which pretty much tells you all you need and I talk a bit about a new quantum paper that suggests that the Universe has always been here?!!!

BMU #438 Juby, Kahn & CrystalWizard

Hi, welcome to episode 438 of Beam Me Up.  This week, something
slightly different.  I had several pieces of stories that by all rights should have played this month. But things being a being as they may, I am catching up on them all.

First off, we have the latest episode in Michael Juby's Squeek Squeek
series which takes up multi - generational star ships, but with a twist.

Then, from the blog we have an excellent article on quantum spin, this one will spin your brain sideways!

Next up is Jason Kahn's In Plain View episode 32.  I don't know about
you but I am treasuring each of these episodes.

I review Elfin Lied anime series.

I am forever looking for the short films on YouTube.  This episode is no exception.  I found simply enough a short called Portal.  it is short but very entertaining.

I close with pt3 of Mimsy Were The Borogroves.

This and more.  Enjoy!

BMU Episode 437 is now Online

Welcome to Beam Me Up - episode 437.

Pretty well grounded episode this week.

After the opening monologue, I open with a great anime musical piece, Nobody knows.

Before the first story of the afternoon, I switch gears and read a short article from Kallamis that if you like the Darwins or the more recent "Here is your sign" then you can understand his dismay and frustration even while laughing.

The first story for the afternoon is a funny little tale called "My New Roommate" from a new writer for BMU Russ Bickerstaff.

From the blog, NASA's Dawn is closing in on it's second half of its asteroid mission by visiting the most massive body in the asteroid belt.

EU's Beagle 2 lander which has been missing for better than 10 years may have been found.

I found an awesome youtube video on quantum mechanics.  I have the link but it was a bit long for this weekend's program.

Finally, I play part two of Mimsy Were the Borogoves read by CrystalWizard.

And that's it.  I hope you enjoy the program.

Beam Me Up Episode 436 is Now Online

This week in Beam Me Up episode 436 is the beginning of MIMSY WERE THE BOROGOVES by Lewis Padgett and read by (we were so lucky to have her) CrystalWizard.

But before part one of Mimsy were the Borogoves, I take a trip to the podcast.

An alarm aboard the ISS forces evacuation....

An asteroid is due to make a close pass....

Kepler Space Telescope had found a record breaking earthlike planets

I post a film of a static test of the RS-25 rocket engine that will be the main engine for the sls heavy lift system.

Eight people who need an idiot sign.  I mean REALLY need a sign...

2015 is the year that Back to the Future and Marty's Hoverboard.  Here  are 6 reasons why you would hate one!

And finally CrystalWizard reads Mimsy were the Borogoves.
