This week after music to get the ball rolling I start with the first story of the afternoon - another story in the Human Hunter series by David Scholes.  This week "Clash at the British Facility".

From the BMU blog wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com, I review The Maze Runner which pretty much tells you all you need and I talk a bit about a new quantum paper that suggests that the Universe has always been here?!!!

And for the last story of the day is the conclusion of Mimsey were the Borogroves.

Review: Trathh and Other Stories by David Scholes

Trathh and Other Stories is a very unassuming title of which this collection of stories is most definitely not.

Author David Scholes, a long time BMU contributor serves up some tried and true and a lot that is new, and it is a great mixture.

Dave has given us some Trathh stories to once again whet our apatite on one of our favorite characters. Then adds in some mystery with a completely diffent venu with stories like Aftermath or The Lodger.  Both have a feeling like we know the main characters, but then we don't.  The Lodger gives a feeling of how it may have begun...but with a healthy serving of Young Old War we are thrust into a complete new malestrom.

Take the story Aftermath.  Again, we almost recognize the main protagonist and the post apocalyptic venue is also just out of reach and then with a clever twist we are again presented with a completely new venue that just cries out for more.  If I had a bitch about Aftermath it would have to be there just isn't ENOUGH!  I hope Dave turns this into a novel at some point.

I really could go on and on, but I really do not want to give too much away.    Trathh and Other Stories contains 21 short stories and is available in paperback and electronic form.  You can find the e-book at Amazon, but if you yen after a hard copy, it can be found at various sites, such as Booktopia HERE.  Or The Book Depository, E-Bay, Barnes & Noble etc.

In closing I know it must sound like I am pushing a regular author, but I can guarantee that is not the case here.  Trathh and Other Stories is thoroughly captivating and entertaining.  I would give the collection high marks in both categories.

BMU #385 Now Online

After my opening comments at the start of Beam Me Up 385 I play Listen by Meakitty which if don't miss my guess is a riff on Zelda

Next I take a moment for some Star Trek TOS and talk about the episode "The Alternative Factor" and some of the hijinks that went on to ruin what could have been a very good show.

From the BMU Blog first off, the most recent meteorite strike in Russia and how this may reflect negatively on frequency of impacts..like maybe instead of every other century, every decade or so.

What would the North American coastline look like if all the polar ice melted at once.  The Russians had to move a Soyuz capsule to make room for a new complement that another Soyuz is bringing up to fill out the crew complement to 9.

It also may be possible that the Milkyway and Andromeda may have already collided 10 billion years ago and as such may fundamentally change our understanding of gravity. 

You will not believe the age of the person who has discovered a supernova that no one has ever seen before!

And finally David Scholes The Battle at Times End which is a fine story.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

BMU # 370 The Rise & Rise of Grey Power + No Great Magic con

Well here we are!  Another week gone by and it is time for Beam me up episode 370.

I start this week I open with what I like to call a conversation but others would classify as a rant  ***sigh*** How about we split the difference and call it a conversation with passion?  No? Well anyway, a listener pointed me in the direction of a news article concerning recent additions to the passenger list of Virgin Galactic.

Next I was having some difficulty talking, I play a nice musical selection which leads to the the first story of the afternoon David Scholes “The Rise & Rise of Grey Power”.

I open the book on Star Trek Trivia.  This week – Mudd’s Women.

Now I meandered over to the Beam Me Up blog.  This week, articles about China’s space effort and Andromeda it seems has a plethora of black holes in its core. From the weekly rundown, Nuclear  spacecraft engines, It seems that some gullies On Mars were not made with water, news on NASA’s Sun Jammer solar sail as well as discussion on Lagrangian points.

Then it is time for the conclusion of “No Great Magic”.

BMU # 354 Now Online!

Yes, I am in the WRFR lp/fm studios this week! Not that this is of heart stopping importance other than it is episode 354!  But anyway, I start off with a new segment, weekly rundown from Kallamis which covers some of the news that BMU may have covered, but often other material of interest.  

Then we deal with one of the most twisted submissions I have had in some time.  We can all blame this one on Xnewsman, and it is better to just hear it.  Check it out at about 14:30 minutes into the broadcast.  

From there I play the conclusion to Colonial Scout by Doug Turnbull. 

Next I do a change up on Star Trek trivia.  There hasn't been much input, so I take the Star Trek trivia and basically turn it into....Did You Know or do you remember this type of information.  I think it will prove to be much more interesting this way.

In light of the Russian meteor, Earth Sky revisits the Tunguska impact of a hundred years ago.

I do two reviews this week, the first being Pixar's Brave, which I have to admit has made stunning improvements to their 3d rendering engine.  

Kallamis celebrates 50 years of Dr. Who with some really good, historical high points.  I give a brief summery, but it would behoove you to take a trip over to the wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com Beam Me Up blog for a more up to date rundown.   

My last review of the afternoon is the indie film Robot and Frank.  Frank played brilliantly by Frank Langella.  The film is a low key story of a two story man (Frank) who is suffering from dementia and must either accept a robot care taker or hospitalization. Check out my review in about 40:00 into the broadcast.

Final story of the afternoon is a Trath tale, "The Story Continues" by David Scholes, another low key tale of the warrior Trath coming back to visit one of the remote aboriginal tribes.
