Beam Me Up episode #462

In episode 462 the main story is Accidental Death, a bit of a “flash from the past” from author Peter Bailey.

News from the blog: first off from Kallamus is comments on the Chronicles of Shinara and Star Trek. Next are my observations on “Space 1999” plus where they can play a behind the scenes short, this concerning the intricate modeling of the ships that was done.  Next, with new detectors, it may be within scientists’ reach to observe gravity Waves.

Has the 9th planet truly been discovered?

Carole sent in photos of folks that will most likely be future inductees into the Darwin Awards list.
That about ties it up for another episode.  I hope you enjoy the podcast.

BMU #458 Now Online

I start off episode 458 with observations concerning stupid questions and even stupider answers by the political pundits vying for the office of the  President.

My musical selection was A Glorious Dawn by Symphony of Science.

From the Beam Me Up blog http://wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com/  a couple of new planets have been discovered, but don't look for either to be life bearing.

I review "Terminator Genesis"

And close with episode 36 of Jason Kahn's In Plain Sight

BMU Episode 456 for Halloween

Episode 456 was my Halloween episode which always incorporates Colin P, Davies' classic tale Happy Halloween narrated by Kelly better known as Crystal Wizard.  I absolutely love this story which has a masterful twist at the end.

The first story is a treat as we don't get to have stories narrated by Ron Huber.  The story is called the Benefactor written by David K. Scholes.

I start however with the movie Vice.  With Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane among others.

You can download, or simply play the episode by selecting HERE

Beam Me Up #450 with stories from Scholes & Goel

Is brainwashing torture? Well it certainly seems that way in Himanshu Goel's futuristic tale Brainwashing 101

I revisit Bad Dreams again with a lot of local listeners missing the first broadcast, no loss,  stories by Dave Scholes are like fine wine "even better with age"
From the blog:  a couple of great video sound tracks, really strange Mars picks, Planes that boggle the imagination and conversation points from yours truly.

Hey, and there is news about Ed McKeown, a new book "My Outcast State" Now on Amazon.com

Beam Me Up episode 442 Deep Web - David Scholes + IPS #34 - Jason Kahn

Hi and welcome to this week’s episode of Beam Me Up.  This is episode 442.

Area of discussion this episode is quantum mechanic’s proofs and the many worlds conjecture as a results of one area of quantum “proofs”

I start this episode with a musical name “The Right Time” which was the closing theme for the anime series Paraclete.

The first story this afternoon is episode 34 of Jason Kahn’s “In Plain Sight”

From there, I head it over to the blog for Beam Me Up. This episode starts with the quantum many worlds idea, which is bizarre enough on it’s own right, but when combined with a mathematical proof system, its then that things get well, weird.

I talk for a moment about the “proof of concept” film “Sundays” which of its own right is a wicked powerful as well as a compilation of all that made the sci fi adventure flick entertaining.

There is now mounting proof that super-nova are indeed the things planets are made of.  A lot of them!

I found an app that shows all the cyber – well – attack activity around the world and how much is pointed straight at the USA!  Not just government but private institutions as well!

and the final story this afternoon is from David Scholes called Deep Web.  A strange and weird story about very very deep web sites.

And That is it for episode 442!  Enjoy!

Episode 441 of Beam Me Up is no online!

Wow, episode 441! Who knew?

This week I open with a foot tapping piece from Ingrid Michaelson called "Time Machine" and if it doesn't get a foot tapping, your dead!

The first story for the day is from Michael Juby called Timothy's Offensive Life.  A bit of a change up that you are sure to enjoy.

From the blog  Finally a representation of light's dual states.  I do a couple of reviews.  First is "Earth to Echo"    The Dawn spacecraft has arrived at Ceres.

Second movie review is "Wolf Children" is so much better than Earth to Echo.

Wow, have you seen the new promo pic of Super Girl?

"New Generation" by David Scholes is the final story for the afternoon.  Hope you enjoy

From the BMU blog wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com, I review The Maze Runner which pretty much tells you all you need and I talk a bit about a new quantum paper that suggests that the Universe has always been here?!!!

And for the last story of the day is the conclusion of Mimsey were the Borogroves.

Enjoy!

BMU Episode 437 is now Online

Welcome to Beam Me Up - episode 437.

Pretty well grounded episode this week.

After the opening monologue, I open with a great anime musical piece, Nobody knows.

Before the first story of the afternoon, I switch gears and read a short article from Kallamis that if you like the Darwins or the more recent "Here is your sign" then you can understand his dismay and frustration even while laughing.

The first story for the afternoon is a funny little tale called "My New Roommate" from a new writer for BMU Russ Bickerstaff.

From the blog, NASA's Dawn is closing in on it's second half of its asteroid mission by visiting the most massive body in the asteroid belt.

EU's Beagle 2 lander which has been missing for better than 10 years may have been found.

I found an awesome youtube video on quantum mechanics.  I have the link but it was a bit long for this weekend's program.

Finally, I play part two of Mimsy Were the Borogoves read by CrystalWizard.

And that's it.  I hope you enjoy the program.

An asteroid is due to make a close pass....

Kepler Space Telescope had found a record breaking earthlike planets

I post a film of a static test of the RS-25 rocket engine that will be the main engine for the sls heavy lift system.

Next - the first story of the afternoon is Venus or Bust pt2 by Alec Jones

From the Blog  wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com

A fake tweet from NASA and a planetary alignment might make you feel lighter?

2015 is an auspicious year for Back to the Future, how much did they get right and how much was plain misses.

Some people have way too much time on their hands and way too many legos!

SpaceX is another step closer to crew transport.

Finally this episode ends with part two of Margaret Karmazin's Sound Effects.

Enjoy!

BMU #430 is now online

Yep, it is episode 430 of Beam Me Up on a cold and decidedly winterish weekend in Maine.

After my opening comments I play one of the opening pieces of music for the animated series RWBY called This will be the Day by Jeff Williams featuring Casey Lee Williams.

I follow this music with part two of the series Squeak Squeak by Michael Juby.

From the BMU blog  I mention the Virgin Galactic space plane failure.
Jarad sends me a couple of links to two extremely well made short films ABE and the other is Blinky.  These two are so well made as to be big screen quality.   Or how about the TSA agent who confiscated a toy ray-gun belt buckle...   John Anealio has a new Halloween themed album out.

The last story for the week is David Scholes Human Hunter - The British facility.

That's it for the weekend.  Enjoy!

BMU # 428 Now online

here we go guvna....

My opening comments for episode 428 are pretty much all over the place but I did manage to discuss some of the anime I have been following plus I jump down the x-37b rabbit hole.

My first piece of music is the opening to the Anime Series Wakfu, this series is without a doubt one of the oddest but most fun fantasy quests out there, and yes I am including One Piece.  The characters are thoroughly endearing and the quest is something of a secondary goal that I would thing it would be only the hardened few who would pass on this fun series.

After the music, I spend a few moments (because so much of my "tv" entertainment is now coming from alternative sources of which cable is  not even a strong minority.) wondering what might be coming once cable  loses its' strangle hold on tv entertainment.

Next up is CrystalWizard's Wizard Bane Chapter 4 pt3

From the blog Boeing's X-37b who's whole fleet of 2, One of which just returned from a 22 month mission.

A new animated movie called Ambition looks to be a wildly entertaining film.

Cassini has treated us to a wonderful high rez photo of Hyperion.

Alexandra Grenberg's "Echo" finishes off the afternoon. This enigmatic short story will give you a chill and in the end well, it WAS one simple act....

BMU #426 is NOW Online!

hoooooooooo! Yep it's that time of the week again. This week - episode 426. This week in my opening comments I discuss the time paradox in A Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Plus the stunning success of the Indian Mars mission.

My first story of the afternoon is by Jason Kahn and his Darke Inspectre series. Because I dropped the ball in September, and for continuity, I rerun episode 28 and continue straight on to episode 29.

Our next stop is the Beam Me Up blog, The first thing this week, what do you get the nero-scientist that has everything? How about a hard to believe demo of the state of CGI in the industry. SNC is calling foul with NASA's choice of Space X and Boeing when one of the selected companies was higher in its bid than SNC!

Finally Crystal Wizard's Wizard's Bane Book 1 ch4,pt1

Episode 419 of Beam Me Up is online!

In my opening comments I talk about "Future Diary" an excellent anime series all so I can play the opening theme for same!

Next a review of "RIO pt2" in short, calling it a turd is doing it a favor.

I always like the week where I get to run another episode of IPS.

This week Episode 28 of In Plain Sight written and narrated by Jason Kahn, 28th months from the talented Mr. Kahn 2 and 1/3 years and he is still going strong.  I honestly hope he decides to compile these great stories into an ebook, that would be so great!

NASA's Cassini spacecraft has again spotted something on Titan of  scientific interest.  Plus some trivia on Titan.

It is no suprise that I really like the concept of 3d printers.  Now that they are becoming affordable and easy to operate, the are becoming much more prevalent, even NASA is taking up the reigns for
the devices.

And catch up on the darkest material yet...it's wild!

And the final story for the afternoon is "Even a Non-Corporeal Can Get Lonely by David Scholes

BMU 401 is now online

Beam Me Up episode 401 is now online!

First off, I should apologize.  There is a bit of static at the beginning as I recorded this episode off air....

So...after my opening remarks and a short musical interlude, I head over to the Beam Me Up blog for a few articles about a new British SF due out soon, called the Machine.  Fossils of possibly the largest land going carnivore. NASA has plans for a future visit to Jupiter's moon Europa.  I talk about a short that I have on the blog of some of the behind the scenes on the set of the award winning "Gravity".

Finally a flash from the past with a librivox reading of James Blish's short story "One Shot"

It's a quick hour, thanks for listening.
