COMMENT: Goodbye Eureka

Wow, last episode. I am going to leave the "how

disapointing" or "how disappointed I am with SyFy" and just for a few minutes ponder the loss of another great show. Eureka was always a quaint proposition in the first place. They took their science from the Star Trek school of physics most of the time and often the show was blatant morality plays. But if you were a fan, you were a FAN. The people were easy enough to identify, if you didn't get it right off, our everyman Carter was there to "this is what I do...." But they managed to go out in style, yes a tear jerker at times, I know, but the closed loop at the end?!!! I am SOOOOO loving that.

So not so much as losing a close friend, the feeling for Eureka at the risk of being anthropomorphic, was having that close friend move away.

The sting will fade as it has before with better, far better shows, but if you have enjoyed the years, then you know the characters you have come to enjoy aren't there. TV Science Fiction is plainer for it.

SfFy's Eureka canceled...Eureka NM Is Go!

Yep, you read that right. SyFy has canceled Eureka but that hasn't dampened the enthusiasm that Bob Brumley, the chief executive officer of Pegasus Global Holdings, has for Eureka....Eureka New Mexico that is.

This according to Mike Hinman writing for the Airlock Alpha blog. Brumley wants to invest $200 million to build a town on 20 square miles of land that he will call "The Center." It will be the model of a future city, completely self-sustaining with environmentally friendly technology. The new town will even be used as a place for scientists to live, experiment and test their innovations.

• A final site hasn't been chosen yet for The Center, but New Mexico's governor is working rather closely with Pegasus Global to finalize the deal and get construction underway.

Eureka Canceled?! Say it ain't so!

Mark Wilson over at About SF has some pretty distressing news for SF fans. One of the best shows to come out of SYFy's writing stable has been the quirky Eureka - a secret DOD facility in the guise of a small town, rife with ubber geeks and weird science. Mark reports that SY FY has backed out of any commitment past season 5, effectively ending the show at the end of season 5.

The really aggravating thing however is that this decision was not precipitated by ratings lagging but by the new merger ala wrastlin....

Warehouse 13 was renewed though...but Eureka?!!! come oooooooooonnnnnnnn!

Anyone else out there feeling as betrayed by Sy-Fy's actions as I am? Damn...I really like this show!

Eureka go for a fifth!

ABOUT blog report that even though Eureka is only a few episodes into its' fourth season, The SyFy channel has decided to renew it for another season, based on how well the show is doing.

The number are in fact, very good. Since the fourth season started in July, each episode has averaged 3 million viewers each week.

Eureka nets a 22 episode order for season 4

Airlock Alpha writes that the SyFy channel ordered 22 episodes for the fourth season of Eureka. That's four more than the 18 in the current season!

There is little doubt that Eureka is one of SyFy's most popular programs. The ratings have slipped a little lately, down to 2.7 million from an opener of 2.8 million at season 3 premier, so writers have been tasked with bringing up the audience with show ideas like a two part musical.

Eureka gets a fourth from SyFy

Good news fans of SyFy's Eureka, SyFy has renews the quirky series and ordered 22 new episodes.

It looks like season four will play much like 3 / 3.5 did, breaking the episodes in two sections for airing next summer...though that hasn't been confirmed by the Science fiction Fantasy blog on About.

What is very interesting though is that some of the episodes will be set aside for special projects and there is some very interesting news items.

• One or two episodes of the new season have been set aside for a musical episode. We know Colin Ferguson is a comic and improv performer, but can he sing? Ferguson hinted to the panel that he might not feature heavily in that episode. Erica Cerra (Jo Lupo) can, but she seems likewise wary of a musical episode.
• Matt Frewer will return as the (mysteriously absent) animal expert Taggart.
• Show runner Jaime Paglia confirmed that Allison's pregnancy wasn't planned – they decided to incorporate Salli Richardson-Whitfield's real-life pregnancy.

Cool, well I am a fan, and I am glad to hear positive things going on.

"Weirdness" at Eureka

I was reading over on IO9 about the first half season or so of the Sci-fi channels Eureka which read really good about the addition of a corporate mystery woman and the passing of Nathan Stark.

It's worth a read on many levels. But then the weirdness started rolling in. First off it seems the sheriff's home computer SARAH has a twitter site. This message was posted there recently:
Security sensors have detected an alert concerning a Mary Perkins. If you have information regarding her whereabouts, call 202-640-3864. On the Eureka unscripted site you see this message, which is very similar: Have information on her whereabouts? Call us at 202-640-3864.

The phone number works, seems to be hooked to a "cell phone message". You should record it, because it almost incomprehensible. However if you don't have that capability, you can go to this Eureka discussion group and there is a LINK to the recorded file and more talk. There seems to be some speculation that there might be an Eureka ARG (alternate reality game) in the wind.

It working on generating buzz for the program and I think it is working. To bad Sci-fi didn't put more of this effort onto some of the other equally good offerings.

Eureka & SG1 may have some faces in common

has moved over to Startgate Atlantis and others are taking on roles on some of the networks other programming. Michael Shanks, who played archaeologist Daniel Jackson for 10 years on the series, is set to enter the small town of “Eureka” as is his wife Lexa Doig. Doig, who is most known to genre fans as Rommie from “Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda,” as well as a recurring role on "SG-1" in the ninth and 10th seasons, will enter the series for a single episode, “Maneater,” playing a biologist who deals with sexual harassment cases for Global Dynamics. A week after her appearance on the series, her husband Shanks will take on the role of a suave artistic genius who discovers that one of his metal sculptures has been transformed into solid gold. The episode, “All That Glitters,” is set to air Sept. 25.
