Guess Who Was 80 Saturday!

Herb scooped me on this and it is corroborated by Trek Movie website, yep, I totally spaced that our favorite Vulcan Leonard Nemoy celebrated his 80th birthday Saturday March 26 2011. While we are on the subject of Mr. Nemoy, here are some interesting facts, from the TrekMovie.com site:
  • Began acting at the age of 8.
  • His wife Susan Bay is Transformers director Michael Bay’s cousin
  • Has authored seven books of poetry
  • Born only four days after William Shatner
  • Is a very competent photographer. Studied photography in UCLA in early 1970s and considered changing careers to photography full time
  • Has a master’s degree in education
  • Only actor to appear in every episode of original Star Trek
Many more facts on the trekmovie.com site here as well as some really great video shorts.

Live long and prosper indeed! My fiance has the same B-Day... Awesome! This will give me some ideas for future B-Day presents. Nothing says "I love you" like giving a non-Trekkie a Trekkie gift. ;) hehe (wonders how his fiance will look with Vulcan ears)

Yeah, Nimoy is definitely a class act. Not just our favorite Vulcan, he is the definitive Vulcan -- the standard to which all other Vulcans shall be held in perpetuity. And I think it's safe to say, too, that he's appeared in more incarnations of Star Trek than any other actor.

Oh, and ... according to IMDB, he's rumored to be the voice of Smaug the dragon in the upcoming "Hobbit" movie.

I didn't realize that he was in ALL the OST episodes...huh who knew. I have an idea that is why Gene and Leonard rubbed each other the wrong way. Nemoy early on had a feeling of how the character would act and react. A lot of what we call quintessential Vulcan are in truth pure Nemoy. The eyebrow, the salute, neck pinch and mannerisms were all his idea. Not to say the rest of the cast didn't know their characters, it's just Nemoy took it to a whole different level. And we all benefited from his professionalism.
