Naruto Shippuden:Dreamers Fight - Fan Film Trailer

Ok, I know I push a lot of anime down your throat, however at times it is every bit as much legit sci fi as any genre. Then again some anime is just escapist entertainment. Sometimes you just find yourself caught up in an anime world that you had no intention of doing so. That is what happened with Naruto and later Naruto Shippuden. This series is about as whacked as you can get in an anime universe, but at the core are characters you can identify with and ultimately root for. So here I am several years later wating for the number one spiky haired knuckle headed ninja. And let me tell you the fan base is deep and loyal. How loyal you ask? Well check out this fan made live action Naruto movie trailer. Hell I would go see it!

And there is a facebook page here for those that were involved I suspect....

Aaron Sims Making His Own Movie?

Who is Aaron Sims you ask? Mr. Sims is the genius behind the beasts for I Am Legend, War of the Worlds, The Incredible Hulk to name just a few. According to the IO9 article, Aaron is working on developing characters for Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Amazing Spider-Man,
on his own time he put together a short teaser trailer for Archtype - a robot with a memory glitch. It remembers being human.....hummmmm.

Here is the premise from the article:
  • RL7 is an eight foot tall combat robot. Only problem is he's starting to remember once being human. Now on the run from an all powerful corporation that will stop at nothing to destroy him RL7 desperately searches for the truth behind his mysterious memories before it's too late.
I like it already.

Trailer for new X-Men animated Series

Xmen fans? Anime fans? ok, from Anime News Network via IO9 is news that Madhouse Animation will release an anime version of the X-Men. The article states that "The show debuts on Animax in Japan on April 1 and will air on G4 later this year." Now I am not throwing stones here or trying to start a flame war, but this certainly is not for your average nine year old. Neither is it a cartoon. Being animated doesn't immediately equate it to children's entertainment exclusively.

Here is a trailer for the program...sorry no dub, no sub...straight up.

Fan Made Ender's Game Trailer

Wow! fans of Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game will enjoy this fan made Ender's Game movie trailer. IO9 blog writes: Steven Davis mashed together clips from some of our favorite science fiction films.
You can see some of the clips from previous films and TV shows but it's pretty seamless. I would definitely go for this one.

Up & Inception trailer mashup called *sic* Upception

From the pages of Gizmodo via Kim Komando comes a very clever mashup of the sci fi thriller Inception and the animated family movie Up. In this "Trailer" called with tongue firmly in cheek, Upception, are graphics that all originated from "Up" but the voices and sound track are from the trailer for "Inception". The end product is a well timed and brilliantly edited fake trailer that if you didn't know any better, could be taken for the real deal. Great fun and very funny in retrospect!

DIY Sci-Fi Trailer for Technotise. It's GREAT!

Jaron Pitts is at it again with a spec trailer for a live action version of the animated Serbian sci-fi film Technotise: Edit & I. Pitts previous project was a fake Green Lantern trailer by cobbling together scenes from Firefly and sci-fi movies, which in and of itself was a stunning effort. I think you will find the same ethos here (plus recognize many pieces of your fav sci-fi films) as well as just stunning visuals and sound. Like Pitts earlier work, Technotise trailer has caught the eye of more than a few of the Hollywood type. It might not lead to anything but as it sits now, but Scott Glassgold, co-chief of IAM Entertainment, who just purchased the Technotise remake right received loads of offers from studios, producers and agents interested in developing the project. Very interesting and encouraging news I would say.

Rendezvous With Rama: a student film project

I remember watching Aaron Ross' "trailer" for Arthur C. Clarke's book Rendezvous with Rama which had an already stunning sound scape created by Andrew Halasz. It was stunning and beautiful and I honestly hoped it would galvanize someone into attempting the project. As you can no know, that didn't happen. However Aaron's film has not languished. I read in Cory Doctorow's Boing Boing that Vancouver Film School student Philip Mahoney took the film and added his own sound design to the film -- including a fantastic voice over -- to turn it into a trailer for a film.
Is it as good as the initial project? No, but it does add a dimension that was lacking that of a true movie trailer, which we now have and again it leads us in the direction once more of a film that I know I would love to see. Thank you Philip for rekindling the dream!

Trailer: T:28

Did anyone watch Gigantor when they were younger? I have always enjoyed good animation and the stylize imaged of anime have always had their appeal. That being said, I never really "got" Gigantor. The images were often sureal, but the story-lines really reminded me more of Saturday morning cartoons. So it never caught on with me.

Now we have the offerings coming out of the same studio that is producing Astro-boy, Imagi Studios. They have produced a really good trailer that would appear is faithful to the original manga series, but so much better rendered than I ever remember that series being. If you have or haven't been a fan of Gigantor, take a look at this trailer for the animated movie T:28. I don't think you will be disapointed.

Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse more than just a viral vid?

Now here is a just plain weird way that the web is influencing "real" life. Pals Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, along with actor Jay Baruchel and director Jason Stone, put together a trailer for a fake movie called Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse and threw it online. It's funny stuff and as thing go, it gathered a following. Some studio execs saw the trailer and decided it would make a great big screen film! The premise of the short film is: two guys holed up in a seedy apartment, getting on each other's nerves while the rest of the world gets torn up by ravenous monsters. Kinda like the Odd Couple at the end of the world. The weirdness enters when execs from Mandate Pictures give the go ahead for a full-length feature version. The trailer is funny enough, funny enough for a big screen though? You decide. Oh NSFW because of language.
