Tron Duck Tape

I have to say that I agree with Rob Bricken over at Topless Robot, that this funny promotional shot for Duck Tape brand products is, eve if you're not a Tron fan, this will still be the greatest Duck Tape commercial you've ever seen. Just watch. Rob said that, and even though I might not have been catapulted into geeky bliss, it's still a damn funny and inventive commercial.

How Tron Should "Really" Look!

I thought I would break a rib laughing when I came across this cartoon in Gizmodo from Virtual Shackles Everything about the new Tron movie is certainly great eye candy, but as this graphic shows....maybe the game interface is a bit off. An update might be in order to bring the movie more inline with popular online games today. Enjoy!

Own your own Tron Lightcycle!

Hey, remember those cool light cycles from the first Tron movie? Ever wish that you could own one of those bad boys? Well the first Lightcycle were all CGA so there was little chance of anything but a knockoff that barely resembled the one in the movie. So, move up a few decades and tech catches up with construction. Add to that a brand new Tron movie and the time becomes ripe for a reintroduction of the Lightcycle. And so, if you have 35 large burning a hole in your pocket, you too can own a genuine Tron lightcycle. Not a knockoff but one of five that will be built for the new movie.

From the article:
  • The lightcycles are to be built by Parker Brothers Choppers, each will be individually numbered from 001 to 005, and each will come with a different color neon highlight. Only five will ever be built.
You will be able to specify the size engine you want or if you really want to crank up the tech you can go electric.

TRON lightcycle scene Sweded

OK, late to the party on this one...but my excuse is I really didn't get Sweding. However I have seen this cardboard version of the Tron Lightcycle scene and it is brilliant.

Made popular in Michel Gondry's film Be Kind Rewind, sweding involves amateur filmmakers creating homespun homages to movies. In the film, Jack Black's character accidentally erases a whole rental store's VHS collection and sets out to remake them with a small group of amateur film makers. To ally renter's confusion as to the amateurish nature of each tape, Black comes up with the idea of calling them "Swedish" film remakes.

Now the idea has taken hold as a homage of sorts to redo the film as low budget as possible but as well done as well. Most are extraordinarily funny and then there are those like this sample while holding to the tenants of Sweding are brilliantly well done.

A New Tron coming to a theater near you....maybe

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

Director Joseph Kosinski is in final negotiations to develop and direct "Tron,". The original movie was about a computer game programmer (Jeff Bridges as the programmer and Bruce Boxleitner was Tron), gets sucked into a computer game and forced to fight in games he helped create. Tron is remembered for its sci-fi over the top battles and groundbreaking special effects. Tron was the first movie to use computer-generated images instead of models and other optical effects in conjunction with live action. The arcade game based on the movie was so popular that it earned more than the movie. Kosinski, who last month signed on to helm the remake of "Logan's Run" for Warner Bros. Pictures, will oversee the visual development of the project.
