Attributing human feelings to inhuman things is a trick usually designed to manipulate. In this case it is hard to understand the "anti-machine prejudice". The machine was stealing from him and he reacted to stop the thievery. Looks like a plea for less violence to me.
I wonder if it is more just showcasing a very human reaction by having the protagonist clearly non human. As for manipulating a reaction, I agree. Why else do it in the first place. It clearly isn't to inform, but to illicit a reaction, or simply to get one to think and then discuss. Perishingly little of either going on these days.
