Romney Said WHAT?! WTF!

Ok, I for the most part don't get political here but come on!  This is the person who thinks and many agree that he is the answer to the problems facing the US.   I was reading an article where Romney's wife was on a flight that had to make an emergency landing due to electrical problems.  I can understand his concern, but his solution shows a frightening lack of even basic science.... Here is some excerpts from the Boing Boing article that can be read here:
  • “When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous.
HUH?!  This person could conceivably make policy in research and education?!  I know this note is likely to get some negative response, but come on!  Can you imagine?  Smoke in the cabin at 40k and opening the windows is viewed as a viable option?  To let in the oxygen you understand cause there isn't any in the plane.... makes you wonder why the engineers didn't think of this idea when they were building the planes....seems so obvious now!

Romney shows his true colors once again.

I'd completely agree - if the story were true. But the Boing Boing article makes it clear that the source for the story is the LA Times' Seema Mehta, who was not too long ago caught lying to try to connect Romney to the Klan. Not a trustworthy source - unless a video turns up.

PS - Don't take this as a Romney endorsement. Neither candidate is really pro-science so I'm not supporting either one.

One is totally anti-science, and the other doesn't seem to get that without some real advancements in science, we go backwards.
But it wouldn't surprise me a bit that he said this. His understanding of science isn't very good to begin with.
Personally, I would like to see a technocracy government put in place here. Then they could show up, vote, and get back to what is important, research.

Oh he said it but reporter who he said it to Ashley Parker of New York Times said he was clearly joking. One thing clear to me is he has very lame sense of humor. He is not helped by other members of his party with their comments in last year such as the whole "legitimate rape" thing and Fox news reporting that wind farms are what is really contributing to global warming. One republican senator saying wind is god's way of cooling the earth and interfering with it will of course cause global warming. LOL now THAT is funny!

Thanks Dave, it is good to have something to balance the story against. Too often we make decisions in an information vacuum, so here we now can at least get some purchase when we have a "but did you know this?"

Thanks guy

I was drinking when I read your comment! I think I damn near aspirated half a bottle of water!

Phan, really? Global warming? Gods way of cooling? It just keeps getting better and better! I am beginning to think that people who are to numb to dig ditches become politicians. I mean how do these people get through the day without swallowing their own tongues?

I was about to bring up the winmill thing when I saw the gf's post was still in holding. I read that, and let her have that one.
But yeah, he really did say that. Needless to say, you can imagine my reaction immediately.
So if that was true, then we have to tear down every building that we ever put up on this planet.
Like I said once awhile back. We seem to have a group of people that are trying their hardest to return us to the dark ages.
I know a woman right here in town that thinks physics is a dirty word. She also says that physics prove nothing, and neither does science, and she doesn't need or use science in her life.
So I pointed at the TV, the toaster, the microwave, and was then told to get out.
I swear if I don't get out of this area, one of these days you all will be hearing about me on the evening news. I'll have done run amok at last.
Tere was an article two weeks ago on one of my science pages, on why the moon was going to disappear. Now I immediately assumed there was some great weird every 50,000 years or so something happening. NOPE. It was on the new moon. Apparently a lot of kids now don't know why the moon disappears once a month.
Professor Farnsworth was right. I don't want to live on this planet any more.

Well these brain trust people who think science doesn't affect them have to be asked then if they deal with witches on a daily basic, because by their logic these devices must work by black magic...oh yes, work of the devil, throw em out and live in a box...no cave and no fire....tooo much science there you know....oh and no soap or metal implements....and you must gnaw spear points sharp because you have no knives and no fire to harden them with...oh waaaaaaaaaaaay to much science there....no gardens either...you must hunt down your food and poke your stick in its eye...point won't last trying to get through tough skin. and gnaw off the skin and proceed to eat the entrails raw...flesh is hard to eat raw...liver and kidneys are much softer...you won't have to worry about them pesky teeth for long anyway....there's a plus for ya. And any luck you will find someone who can get past the fetid rank-nasty you emit cause you haven't had any proper paper to wipe your bum on for who knows how long, and your pustules will live together in happiness for a few years cause the average lifespan has dropped to what...20? no 15 years cause so many of you are getting eaten by bears now....yep you sure do live so much better without science in your everyday life!

Kall, you think you could find me that link...or write a short article for me to rave about Saturday?

That was last week i think, but I'll go on the hunt for it. I think I have a way to find it easy enough. Into the history again. I only erase once a week now, so I think it is still in there, somewhere. I'll find it, don't worry.
