This Gizmodo article tells the tale that Hillary Greenbaum which is story of the two NASA logos or as others have dubbed it: the Most Stupid Conversation That Ever Took Place at NASA.
You most likely recognize both of the logos here, but the red delta over a globe is considered the "official" due to this conversation here that is said to have taken place between NASA Administrator Dr. James Fletcher and Deputy Administrator Dr. George Low.
- Fletcher: I'm simply not comfortable with those letters, something is missing.
- Low: Well, yes, the cross stroke is gone from the letter A.
- Fletcher: Yes, and that bothers me.
- Low: Why?
- Fletcher: (long pause) I just don't feel we are getting our money's worth!

I agree the last line of the conversation is rather silly, though likely apocryphal.
That being said, I never particularly like the "worm" logo. Cutesy fonts are for Jr. High school students decorating their notebooks, not important federal agencies. And "^" is a Caret or Chevron, not an "A." I guess you'd have to pronounce the agency something like "in carrot scare it" if that were the official logo :-)
Let's give Mr. Fletcher the benefit of the doubt... I don't think Mr. Fletcher felt like he "wasn't getting his mony's worth" because part of the "A" was missing, I think he probably felt like the whole "worm" design was just too simplistic...
Honest Dave, I really never had a this or that feeling. It seemed though that it was more fitting to put the worm on space craft and the delta/nasa/globe one on suits and eva equipment and clothing I guess. I just happened to notice when they STOPPED using the worm all together. I guess I like the Globe one better, but it all seems so mundane and moot now that its really hard to get excited by it.
Yeah, I can go with that Jon...
Still hard to get excited by it.
Anyone remember the movie Space Camp from 1986?
vaguely. Bring us up to speed?
