George Takei Upset That Sulu in Star Trek Beyond is Depicted Gay

George Takei, who originally  portrayed Sulu  in the televised Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry - has misgivings about  Sulu in Star Trek Beyond being written as gay. Takei feels that this deviates from  Roddenberry's original intent.

Converting WHAT to 3D !!?

Oh Tim, tell me it ain't so!!!

In the "urp I think I am going to lose my cookies" department, Tim Sayell sends me a link to a Yahoo entertainment article. From George Lucas himself - Lucasfilm is going to convert all six "Star Wars" films into 3D format. George plans on starting with The Phantom menace and then release another film once a year until the whole series is complete. This is to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the original "Star Wars" release. Though there hasn't been an exact release date for each movie.

My question is and has to be WHY? We have seen what the results have been when it comes to spur of the moment conversions. Offerings that are for all intents unwatchable! The last airbender didn't teach anyone anything?! How many times is Lucas going to squeeze this grape? Even in original release, the movie's audience shrank and the subsequent re-releases have done little to grown a substantial fan base. (now dont get me wrong, Star Wars fans are among the most loyal (flinch flinch) but it is a core group that has to admit that isn't growing at such a phenomenal rate that would make this project viable) The Avatar 3d project failed to wow me. It never for an instant convinced me that I was "IN" a real environment. I can't imagine an add on after the fact effect being worth the outlay.

George Takei & Brad Altman Wed

As SF Scope reported in an earlier article: Actor George Takei was making plans to marry his long time companion Brad Altman after CA lawmakers struck down legislation banning gay marriages. George and Brad made it legal the 14th of September at the Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony featured a Buddhist priest, Native American wedding bands, a Japanes Koto harp, a bagpipe procession, and two of Takei's Star Trek cast-mates: Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols served as best man and best lady. Takei Announces Wedding

In Mark Wilson's About.com Guide to Sci-Fi / Fantasy I read that Star Trek / Heroes star George Takei announced he's getting married to his companion of 21 years, Brad Altman, now that California's Supreme Court has ruled than banning same-sex marriage is unconstitutional in that state. Takei made the announcement on his blog saying in his announcement - "Now, we can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage." Takei publicly revealed he was gay in October 2005, though his homosexuality was an open secret for decades before that. I would like to go on record with Mark in saying congratulations, George and Brad. Publicly declaring your love is something everyone should be able to do.

Star Wars Galaxy Map!

As far as I know, George Lucas never created a map of the Star Wars galaxy. But the galaxy map pictured above was first compiled and published in 2002, in Issue One of The Official Star Wars Fact File. It was later republished in Issue 65 of the Star Wars Insider, which was released in February 2003.
