Short Film: Time Trap

Now here is a short science fiction film written and directed by Michael Shanks.  For a short piece, it shows an amazing amount of comedy and pathos - both from the 'main character' and the scenes 'he' shows us.

My ambivalence towards the main character is quite literally not knowing quite who or what it really is.   As you can see from the opening graphics, is that it is humanoid, a robot - maybe, an android - very likely.  In any event, wonderfully broad spectrum and a wildly funny ending.

The film can be found here on YouTube

Short Video: Love in the time of Advertisment

Hey, you have got to check out this very clever short from David Bokser & Matt Berenty. It is as good as any short I have seen from the "pros". Its story line is a bit on the weird side but then, that is what often draws me to them. The premise here is a rather odd love story about a young man who lives inside a billboard. His only job is to update the advertisements. When he falls in love with a beautiful lady living across the highway, he has to use the only method he knows to get his message across - advertising.

FTL Here is a Very Astute Explaination Of Why FTL Is Not Possible

YouTube pundit Veritasium gives a incredibly understandable short talk on why faster than light is not possible. His argument is elegant and his final conclusion is so stunningly simple that you can't help but have a DUH moment. The short video is fun and informative.

Now, I tried to paste in all ten video shorts, but this email got really to large when it is much easier
to jump over to the Topless Robot site and look at the videos and the excellent cometary.

LUNAR a Short Film from Tyson Wade Johnston

Wow the short films are coming fast and furious this week! Here is Luna and it is a hard hitter for such a short film. Written & Directed by Tyson Wade Johnston, this is how the short is described:
  • Set in Los Angeles City, 2057, an outlaw is captured and sentenced to a lifetime of imprisonment on the LUNAR penitentiaries. To reunite with his family, he must become the first convict to escape the corrupt system and return to Earth.
The film is dark, grainy and exudes depression and hopelessness.    It is so worth the watch!

Great Transporter Illusion

Recently in a mall in the UK, a couple of illusionists performed a transporter illusion.  The act was to help promote the new Star Trek movie, "Into Darkness"

When you watch the video, you may be able to catch onto the initial illusion, but I would like to know where the initial subject went to?

Check it out...great demo for a non existent tech!

Six Second Sciencee

Hey, you have got to check out this short video.

GE held a competition asking people to pack as much science as possible into six second, this video is a compilation of the best ones.

From the Gizmodo article:
  • You will recognize most of these experiments, because chances are, you've done them before. From a volcano made out of baking soda and vinegar, to making a basic circuit, to simple explanations of static electricity using a balloon, these are the ways we learned science when we were young. Adorable, a little bit nostalgia-inducing, but awesome most of all because they're demonstrations of real science.

Now You Too Can Be Dumb!

I was reading this article on Gizmodo, and I just HAD to share it. I mean even the copy was funny. Here is just part of what got me going:

  • Do you ever feel like the rest of the world is so dumb? And it's not that you're especially smart, it's just that people are just so dumb. Do they enjoy being dumb? Have they ever thought about being smart? Of course not......

Scientifically Accurate Spider Man

You and I both know there is something fundamentally wrong with the Spider Man model portrayed in the media. In an effort to address this, the folk over at ADHD have scored a short video describing what a scientifically accurate Spider Man would look and act like.

Deceptive Shadows

Here is a little project, inspired by Paul G. Hewitt, from the Vritasium  Youtube site,  that is easy to set up and execute.  But before you do, just watch the video.  Of course it is a bit disingenuous by calling our attention to the dark areas.  I will give a better hint - great little photography demonstration.

More information the Vritasium Youtube site.

Really, check it out!  Yes I know, it is all pretty much high school science and physics, and if you are really up on this material then you might find it a bit mundane.  But for the average adult, they have either forgotten it or never were privy to live demonstrations.

There is plenty of room for conversation but I am going to save it for the comment section. But do check the site and watch some of the videos.

Wild Optical Illusion

Here is a very interesting illusion caused by a repeating monochromatic pattern.  It is described by the video makers as being mildly hallucinogenic but that is really stretching is a lot.  It is however interesting.  Fyi the effects only last a matter of seconds to at most a minute.  Have fun.

Ferguson does Fireball Be prepared to have your eyes burned from thier sockets!

Xnewsman sends in one of the most horrifying short video I think I have ever seen! On the surface it is a tribute to the moon landing that Craig Ferguson did a couple of years ago. But that is beside the point when you experience the voice over choreography, which hands down I will suspect that everyone will rate this video as one of the most disturbing thing you have ever witnessed! You Have Been Warned!
